Profession Tax

Profession Tax is a part of payroll compliance within India. Every employee has to pay a certain amount to concerned authority on monthly, quarterly or annual basis.  It is a state specific act. Hence the amount of deduction from employee salary varies within every state with respect to their monthly earned salary. It is the duty of employer to register under PT and deduct the amount from their employee salaries and deposit to the state government. They also need to file returns as per the rules described.

In Maharashtra Profession Tax i.e. PT slab or deduction with respect to the earned salary per month is as below:

For Female Employee:

Upto Rs. 25000 = Zero

Above Rs. 25000 = Rs. 200 /- (Rs. 300 /- in Feb)

For Male Employee:

Upto Rs. 7500 = Zero

Between Rs. 7501 to 10000 = Rs. 175 /- &

Above Rs. 10000 = Rs. 200 /- (Rs. 300/- in Feb)
